Deal memos again: I think I found a bug. I opened an existing deal memo, modified it and clicked “Close Deal Memo”. It looks like I now have two entries for the same company but with different dates.

Yes, you can have multiple Deal Memos for the same company, but only one can be open at any point in time. That is the intention.
