Dear Decile Hub Support Team,

I have a question about contacts in my CRM that I'd like clarification on.

Situation:
I notice my directory contains 247 contacts, but I only manually added about 9. The majority (200+) are tagged as "Decile Research" and appear to have been imported automatically.

My Questions:
1. What are these contacts for? Are they meant for my use or just reference data?
2. Can I contact them? Am I permitted to reach out via email or connect on LinkedIn?
3. What's the intended purpose? Why are they in my CRM if I can't use them for outreach?
4. Best practices? What do other fund managers typically do with these research contacts?

What I'm hoping to understand:
- Whether these are potential LPs I can approach for fundraising
- If there are any restrictions on how I can use this data
- The difference between my personal contacts and the research database

I want to make sure I'm using the platform correctly and following proper protocols for LP outreach.

Hi  @Mattias Wahl
,

Firstly, I want to thank you for pausing and asking us this before outreach! This is a signal we need to do better explaining this in-product.

1. What are these contacts for? Are they meant for my use or just reference data?
They are experienced, institutional-grade investors from our community, for your use. For brand-new managers though, they may not be your target LP, as you will likely want to spend more time targeting those close within your network at first.

2. Can I contact them? Am I permitted to reach out via email or connect on LinkedIn?
3. What's the intended purpose? Why are they in my CRM if I can't use them for outreach?
You may note that we added these contacts without email addresses, and only on Linkedin. Our intended pattern here is that you can look through the pipeline (it may be easiest if you expand the width of the "quick note" column) to find any LPs that could potentially be aligned with your thesis. From there, see if you have any linkedin mutual connections in your network that could make an introduction.

4. Best practices? What do other fund managers typically do with these research contacts?
I'll tag in  @Mike Suprovici
if he'd like to add anything here.
It's a lot of work to research LPs. So, we are trying to help make this process easier. That being said, you still need to apply best practices to connect with them, which include:

1. Never EVER cold email LPs
2. Always find an introduction
3. Target the LP at the right time etc...

These LPs are institutional. This means that they are not going to invest in a Fund 1 and often not Fund 2 either. However, because they are institutional, GPs need to spend 1-3 years developing relationships with them before getting an investment. So, we thought it was important to shortcut some of this process by doing the research for the community.
